The Lavender Hill Mob on DVD
I am more than happy to add this to my collection of British films into my comedy section. I just love the way the British produced humour in the 50’s and I am sure many of you do too.
Let me tell you a little about this production. The Lavender hill mob was produced in 1951 and bases its character on a mild timid bank clerk who is in charge of the Gold Bullion section and had been for nearly 20 years. His reputation was known for fussing over complete detail and getting into a crazed panic if any type of suspicion aroused his gold. He truly was dedicated to his job and that gold.
But, he did it so well that his real cover was to devise a plan to steal the gold bullion and retire somewhere in paradise. But he struggles along the way as he knows that black market gold is very hard to deal with.
So, he devises up a plan of what he believes to be a rock solid and to smuggle the gold out of the country shaped as the Eiffel Towers, well many Eiffel Towers to be precise.

Hi and a big welcome today for coming to read my article about this DVD available at Amazon.com called Brief Encounter on DVD, yes it’s available today and would make a great part of your collection of pre 1940 British films.
This film takes place at the end of the year 1939 and is about a housewife who lives in suburbia and is feeling the dull ills of been stuck in a marriage that lacks affection. The story is told in 1st person in an imaginary state while she is confessing to her husband about her affair. Within the story she travels each and every Thursday to a local cinema and while on one of her getaway she meets another passenger, who helps her kindly remove some dust from her eye.
The actor who plays the part of the passenger is Alec Harvey known as Harvey in the film who works as a doctor and a consultant to the local hospital. After meeting a few times and getting acquainted they start to visit a room in hotel where the passion develops.
The thing is, is that both are married and in their late 30’s and have children. However they meet time and time again and finally cannot go on with the guilt on how it may affect both their families. Still neither had ever really found true love in their lives until then.
After lengthy passionate discussions they decide to part as Alec had been offered a new job in South Africa and would reside with his brother.
The story does actually go much deeper and definitely takes the viewer on a ride looking for more, but, if I was to give up the rest of the story I just may spoil it for you.
Inside Amazon there are some great reviews and this is what some of the purchasers of this video said.
“When you feel like British, no other film will do as well”, A speck in the eye can lead to”? “A cinematic classic”. “A tear jerker from the 1940’s beautifully crafted, “This film masters a rich tapestry of forbidden love”
As you can see from the quotes above this film Brief Encounter has stirred many emotions and if you too are ready to become deeply entranced by another popular British flick made in the days of old click the link provided and head over to pick it up today. I am sure it will become one of those movies that will be talked about for many a generation to come.
Now available on DVD the complete series Edgar Wallace Mysteries Anthology can be found on Amazon.
We have been waiting for this for some time perfectly restored with lots of bonus material this really is a fantastic box set.
For to long fans of Edgar Wallace Mysteries on DVD had to tolerate poor copy from the likes of Ebay.
Merton Park Studios during the first half of the 1960s. A noir-esque series, it updates some of the author’s stories to more contemporary settings Edgar wallace Anthology Network really is a splendid box set.
I believe all what left to show this once great studio is a small plaque what is now a car park it reads “once the home of Merton Studio”.
When you watch this set of classic you will spend a lot of time thinking i know that face, and that is because lots of top class British actors started their careers at the Merton Park studios.
I now have a massive big pile of classic DVD next to the television set and if I don’t start watching them soon there going to reach the celling .

Looking a prices on Ebay and Amazon it does seem expensive as their is no box set with every series, you have to buy each series separately lucky for me thats what we have.
Just got the box set To the Manor born and starred on the first episode sometimes when i get these old box set i feel a little disappointed with the canned laughter and dowdy story line but The manor Born is still as fresh to day as it was then.
Lady fforbes-Hamilton played by Penelope Keith with her first major role after The Good Life is one hot sexy lady and is ideal for this role.
As beneficiary of Grantleigh Manor, the snobbish Lady fforbes-Hamilton becomes a happy widower upon the death of her husband. But in the face of her late husband’s creditors, bank, and the government, she can no longer afford to maintain the family’s hold on the estate. Reluctantly, she sees it auctioned to Richard De Vere (formerly Bedrich Polouvicka), a millionaire bachelor of Czechoslovakian extraction who runs a multinational grocery business. With his mother he wastes no time in moving into the Manor. Audrey is annoyed at her new position on the estate, and she is forced to move, with butler, to the Manor lodge. DeVere represents everything Audrey regards as bad taste.
